I had the great pleasure of photographing Jim and Kristens wedding last year. They booked an incredible placed called the Thompson Manor in CT and used pitch perfect design skills to put together this wonderfully amazing and fun wedding!! these are the types of talented, fun and genuine people that I live to photograph. The energy there was just absolutely magical, everyone in the family was friendly, boisterous (in a good way) and very supportive of the marriage between Jim and Kristen. I love photographing close friends. Lyndsay and Matt are two crazy love birds that met a few years back. I was actually there on their first date and captured one of their first kisses on camera…. ever!! So it was totally a honor and a blast to be able to photograph their wedding rehearsal and their wedding.

Film!!!!!!

I’ve been thinking about shooting film all these years, but never really took the leap to return to primitive ways of shooting with plastic sheets coated with gelatin and layers of silver halide, aka film. It seemed that every digital photograph that I have ever taken was missing something in the end product. Missing a key look that I’ve grown accustomed to loving while browsing through my grandmas American Photo mags from the 80s and the early 90s. I convinced that my self that I could somehow get that “film” look through software manipulation in photoshop or lightroom, and I was close at times and even fooled my self into believing that I’ve nailed the “film” look in the digital world. However, some part of the process was missing. The auditory tear of the film box, the smell of the gelatin in the film as the film was loaded, the tactile confirmation of the film winding through the camera, the minor resistance on the advance lever, the sound of the motor winding the film prepping for the next shot, the anticipation of the images as you waited for the images to develop. All these elements of photography have been sadly missing from my life for the past few years.

Today was a major triumph because I saw and felt first hand, the power of film. I love the delicate nuances that it can bring to to color gradations, highlights and shadows.

I’m feeling inspired, I’m feeling pumped, just give me some delicious sunsets and interesting subjects and I’ll be snapping away.
